Hi, when I was pregnant with both my kids, every time I went for a mid pregnancy ultrasound, they always told me to go to the bathroom right before they did the ultrasounds. They said that in early pregnancy, that the full bladder is needed to push the uterus up so that it could be seen better but is not needed in mid-term or later. A tip the nurse gave me before mine, drink mountain dew a little while before and the baby will be sure not to want to sleep. That way, if you don't already know the sex and want to know, you might just see. Good luck!

>>I agree with the above response. I think the office clerks always give a standard answer about water intake. For those of you who might have ultrasounds when not pregnant (example: fibroids) just having a large cup of coffee will probably do it. While the office clerk was telling me to drink a ton of water 2 hours ahead of time, a doctor in the group happened to overhear her. The doctor then told me drinking coffee would probably be enough. I went to the hospital a hour later, buying a bottle of water in the cafeteria. I never got to drink it because the U/S tech tested my bladder and said it was full enough. I was not that uncomfortable either. In prior ultrasounds I drank all the water I was told and then was forced to wait, and felt like I would explode.
