Recent exposure to toxoplasmosis?From: Shelly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 29 May 2003 13:14:56 -0500 (CDT)
I am 8 1/2 weeks pregnant and recently had my cat tested for toxoplasmosis. Her test came back positive for IgM which, according to the vet and information I could find, means she recently contracted the illness. My question is, what is "recently?" A week ago, a month, six months? I ask because I've read that the cat's feces will only be infectious for a few weeks after contracting the parasite. I am trying to estimate if I could have possibly exposed myself to the parasite while cleaning her litter box (I haven't done this since right before I missed my period and suspected that I was pregnant). I am being tested today at my OB appt. I searched this archive (and other sites) but could not find this specific bit of information. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.
