I'm sorry you are going through this- it must be extremely nerve-racking. The miscarriage rate for an amniocentesis is 1 in 200 -- there ARE risks associated with this and YES, it does cause leaks in amnio fluid. Hopefully yours will heal back up. Drink a lot of water! A LOT of water! This is why some doctors recommend several Level II ultrasounds after elevated AFP instead of amnio. I think amniocentesis -- with rare exception when you have a STRONG indication of genetic anomaly -- should NOT be standard. It's too dangerous. I bet you are going to be OK, though, just take it easy for a few days and drink water. My sister leaked fluid after the amnio for about 24 hours and she was fine (it still makes me IRATE that they did the amnio-- she had 1 in 800 risk for Downs and she was 26 years old- - how absurd can you get?!)
