cipro, flagyl and cmFrom: Ellen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 28 May 2003 12:23:12 -0500 (CDT)
I am currently taking 500mg cipro 2x/day and 250mg flagyl 4x/day. Our ttc efforts are temporarily on hold while on these antibiotics and while I'm receiving remicade infusions. I've noticed that the last two cycles while I've been on the antibiotics I've had a noticable increase in cervical mucus during the fertile period. I don't know if this matters but I'm on the antibiotics because I have multiple perianal abcesses (fistulizing Crohn's disease) that I just had surgery on along with other rectal surgery. I conceived my daughter while on the same antibiotics and stopped immediately upon learning I was pregnant at 6.5 weeks. She was born healthy. Three questions: Could the cipro/flagyl actually increase fertile cm? In the case of an RV fistula, could the antibiotics "neutralize" the drainage and create a more favorable environment for sperm? I'm anxious to start ttc again and would like to know if it would be considered reasonably safe to continue on the antibiotics until I get a positive pregnancy test?
