use of clotrimazole for nipple thrush while pregnant

I'm 16 weeks pregnant with my second child, and still breastfeeding a 14-month old baby. I have been diagnosed with nipple thrush, and my OB has said that he really could only recommend over-the-counter lotrimin AF (1% clotrimazole) for treatment. I have two questions:

1. Is clotrimazole safe to use in pregnancy? 2. Is there anything else I can use for nipple thrush during pregnancy that is safe?

This has been an extremely painful experience for me, but I hate to stop breastfeeding. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank-you.
