I say this: When choosing a name, try to pick one that you can picture an adult being named. If it sounds too little kidish, not a good name. Choose a name that is not going to get him/her picked on. Kids are going to make up nick names for others anyways, but names like "Richard", "Oral" "Bunny" "Electra" you get my drift, I'm sure. Initials are important too. My friend decided not to give her daughter a certain first name because her initials would have been "OO". Not what you want the boys calling her. She went with initials that spelled "NO". Perfect for a girl.

Personally, I like names that are passed down through generations, names of great grandparents and such. Names from 16, 17, and 1800's are usually really nice names. However, if your ancestors had names like "Dorcus" and "Meletiah", you might want to forego it. "Promise" and "Chase" are two of my favorites. Names that go with the nationality of the last name or family. Religious Middle Names, or again, names of ancestors.

All the fun aside: Dont worry if you havent picked names before the baby is born. Youll know who they are when you hold them, it'll come from the heavens. The names I had picked went straight out the window when I held mine.
