I have a close friend who went about 2 weeks overdue with her second child because she absolutely did not want to be induced (she had a bad induction experience with her first child). So when she finally gave birth, she had a baby girl that weighed in at 12lbs 13ozs (a record for the hospital). She had a vaginal delivery with an epidural and she had to push for 3.5 hours. Her little girl was born with a very badly deformed shoulder (dystocia) and had to have physical therapy for months. She is fully recovered now. Anyway, my friend is now expecting baby #3 and they are watching her very closely (her first baby was big too at over 10lbs). Any sign of a really large baby this time and they plan to induce or do a c-section.

Just the other side of the coin, but I think that an almost 13lb baby is quite rare...thank goodness!
