I don't know the statistics on that but I can tell you my experience. I was about 8 1/2 weeks when I started having some slight spotting so I went in for an ultrasound. It was then that I found out the baby had died over a week ago and was now finally being flushed out by my body. Another symptom I had though other than spotting was cramping for about a week but I just figured that it was my uterus stretching b/c I had heard it would do that.
