Re: 45 minute long contraction?!From: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 21 May 2003 18:24:08 -0500 (CDT)
Karen, wow that's pretty weird- when I saw the subject line I thought it was someone making fun of me for my post yesterday where I said I was having cramps/contractions that last 30-45 minutes without lightening up. This feels very much like a bad menstrual cramp to me -- what about you?? It does not feel much like the Braxton Hicks I've been having for 10 weeks. Coincidentally, I am 2 days shy of 37 weeks also. My midwife said this is probably not a real contraction ; it is either extreme baby pressure on cervix dilating/effacing it, or who knows what. Yesterday when I called (I live half an hour from the hospital and so I haven't yet bothered to go in), she told me: Drink 2 big glasses of water, take 1,500 mgs of a cal/mag pill, and take a bath. I did and the cramp has not returned. (I had it twice yesterday). I think it's a pre-labor thing, and just so you know, Dr. Nemirovsky on here yesterday told me to make sure (after the contraction) that the baby is moving OK after a contraction that long.
