Marc, it is possible that it would, but not at all reliable. I just met with a genetic counselor after a DETAILED (level 2) ultrasound that was looking specifically for D/S markers (prior to amnio). She said that, although no D/S markers were found, my odds of having a Downs Syndromw baby were about the same as before the ultrasound. She said that only about 50% of actual Down Syndrome babies ever show any possible markers. She indicated that ultrasound was not very effective at all in identifying D/S, although it is very helpful in indentifying Trisomy 18 and Open Neural Tube defects. The only way that you will know for sure is birth or amnio. Best wishes...T.
