induction vs. c-section? help me decideFrom: Arlene (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 12 May 2003 20:01:08 -0500 (CDT)
I am currently 40w6d. I have been at 80-90% effaced, 1-2 cm dialated with the baby at -3 to -1 station for the past 4 weeks. I have been having regular contractions (4-5 minutes apart) that are consistently getting more painful and longer in duration. I spent the night in the hospital last night, but they sent me home becuase there has been no change in my cervix. My baby is also measuring HUGE (9lbs. 7oz in u/s at 40w1d). I am scheduled for an induction on Thursday, but I have a few questions... 1.My Doc uses a catheter/balloon inserted into the cervix to induce. Has anyone ever heard of this? How painful is it? He says its less painful that Cervidel/Pitocin, but since he's never gone through it, I'd like to hear from someone who has. 2. Is is possible that because the baby is so large, his head won't fit through my pelvis? Could that be why I'm not dialating more? 3. I'm worried about shoulder dystocia (sp?) and going through hell with labor and end up just having to have a c-section anyway. Thanks for your input!
