Re: seeking doctor who would do elective C-sectionFrom: anon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 9 May 2003 15:36:16 -0500 (CDT)
I can tell ya one thing, a c-section is no more pleasant than a vaginal birth. It's worse in fact. You may not feel anything while delivering but recovery is a bitch! There can be a long recovery after a vaginal birth because of tears and swelling but a c-section recovery will be longer and worse for you and your baby. Unless it's medically necessary I wouldn't recommend getting a c-section just because. Women have been having babies since the beginning of time, I'm sure you can cope with it, and in today's age, a vaginal birth can be vitually painfree. Having been through both, I'd pick the vaginal anyday. I did it natural (no meds) and the only thing that kept me going was knowing that the pain was going to go away. I felt like I was going to die but I did survive. When I found out I was pregnant for a second time, I bawled at the idea of suffering again and told my doctor at my 6 week visit that I wanted an epidural this time around. I ended up with placental previa and had to have a c-section. It wasn't until 7 weeks later that I could walk normally or lift anything heavier than my baby. I lived off pain medicine because of the pain from the incisions so I couldn't even breastfeed. I have a permanant "pouch" of fat just below my incision that will never go away because of the way the muscles healed. And some of the nerves never grew back where they were cut during surgery so I am numb in some places on my abdomen. I know that this is normal after a c-section but I don't see how anyone would want to purposely go through this. I delivered both of my babies at Southern Chester County, not too far from Philly and the staff was wonderful. If you call around I am sure you'll find a doc that would be willing to fullfil your request, but I suggest you rethink what you should do.
