Re: 24 wks, preterm labor, lots of questionsFrom: Melissa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 30 Apr 2003 13:11:33 -0500 (CDT)
Leila, I am not sure to the answer to your question, but I would guess that the chances of going fullterm are diminished quite a bit after all this. I went into labor at 24 weeks and was on the mag for 2 days before my water broke. I delivered my daughter at 24 weeks 4 days of pregnancy. Do they know why you are in preterm labor? I know often times they never know, but in my case I had an infection of the placenta and amniotic fluid. I was fortunate that I was sent to a maternal fetal specialist when I was in preterm labor and he suspected that I may have an infection even though I didn't show any of the signs of it such as a high heart rate in both mom and baby, fever, tender uterus. I didn't have any of those, just the preterm labor. He did a blood test for CRP (c-reactive protein) which is a general marker for inflammation somewhere in the body. It isn't specific, but gives an indication of things. Mine came back elevated and increasing constantly. He then did an amnio to confirm the infection. I wish you the very best and I pray that you go fullterm. I am not saying any of this to scare you, but rather to offer hope in the event that you do deliver early. My daughter has a webpage and the link is below and tells her story from birth to now. She has done great and shows zero sign of her early arrival into the world. blessings,
