slow rising hcg and falling progesterone levelsFrom: kmac14 (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 30 Apr 2003 12:08:31 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, I am 33 and 6 weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy after a miscarriage in October 2002. In that pregnancy, the fetus stopped developing at 5.5-6 weeks but I did not begin bleeding until 10.5 weeks. I just got the results from my 2nd set of blood work and they are troubling. For my first test, at 4 weeks 2 days past last monthly period (LMP), my HCG was 186 and my progesterone was 15.5. For my 2nd test, taken 7 days later, my HCG was 1049 and my progesterone was 11.75. I have been put on progesterone suppositories, though I know it is probably a bit late for them to be effective. I know the best way to determine viability of a pregnancy is via ultrasound, and have one scheduled for next week. But in the meantime, I was hoping someone could advise me whether these numbers seem to correspond with likely pregnancy failure. Thank you very much for your time. Karen
