Ovulation & Provera?From: Lynn (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 25 Apr 2003 18:37:34 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, My doc recently put me on Provera with the hope that it will 'jump start' my period. My son is 3 mos. old and I'm not breastfeeding. I'm curious though...I assume the reason I've yet to have a period is because I haven't ovulated, is that correct? And from what I've read in the archives, Provera causes menstruation but not ovulation, correct? So if I do begin to bleed after I'm done with the Provera, would it truly be a 'period', and would my cycles theoretically resume with some regularity after that? I thought you had to have ovulated in order for it to be considered a true menstruation. I hope this makes sense. I guess the bottom line would be, is Provera actually resetting my cycle so it will resume regularly (I have always been very regular), or is it just going to make me bleed once and then perhaps not again for a while? Thanks for any insight! -Lynn
