If you had a long period and ovulated late, go from the ovulation date. If you ovulated 4 weeks before the ultrasound, then measuring six weeks would be perfect. You can't always go from LMP if your cycle is not exactly 28 days with you ovulating on day 14. And, on early ultrasound, my doc said 5 days is the discrepency. Later on it goes up to 2 weeks. I may be wrong, that's just what I was told when I was measuring "behind", but everything is fine now, in week 17. Best wishes.
