Retained placenta and two vessel cordFrom: smith1268 (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 22 Apr 2003 19:31:02 -0100
I was wondering if there is any connection between a retained placenta and a two vessel cord. At birth, we found out my daughter had a two vessel cord. It was very small and white and they looked for a long time for even two vessels. I continued to bleed after the delivery, although not very heavily. I had my six week follow-up appointment and all seemed well, but when I was still spotting and gushing blood at times at eight weeks I went back to the doctor and an ultrasound showed retained placenta. (I had not had sex yet after delivery) I had a D&C to remove it. I have heard that a two vessel cord is often associated with twin pregnancy and that a retained placenta can also be associated with this. I was wondering if the retained placenta could possibily have been a twin. I had several ultrasounds (none of which discovered the two vessel cord. I was very sick during my pregnancy which was the reason for the ultrasounds) and none showed a twin, but could it still be possible there was a twin? Also do you have any advice for our baby, ie any tests we should have done? She has already had a renal ultrasound and upper GI. As of now (3months) she is very healthy. Thank you very much for your time.
