'patch' birth control

Hi, I was wondering about this new birth control "patch" that's on the market now, you wear it for a week and then discard it. I can't remember if it's made by ortho-trycyclin or not. Can any doctor here tell me how does it works, and what are the differences between it and oral contraception? What does the research suggest thus far as to it's effectiveness and how high the hormone levels are? I have a concern with too much estrogen and hearing it increases chances for uterine cancer, which runs in my family. Any info? Thank you so much for your response!
