Docs, please help with HCG level questionFrom: Mike (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 31 Mar 2003 17:22:13 -0600 (CST)
My fiancee is 14 days late today (Monday, March 31). We last had intercourse on Saturday, March 22, and experienced a broken condom. She took two in-home pregnancy tests (one Friday March 28, and one Saturday March 29) that each claim to detect HGC levels as low as 20mIU/mL. Both of these tests came back as not pregnant. Then after reading about in-home tests being unreliable, she had bloodwork done on Saturday March 29 at a testing facility that performs various tests (paternity, HIV, pregnancy, etc.) in an effort to keep her concerns as quiet as possible from family, friends, etc. The test was both a qualitative and quantitative test. On the results page, the qualitative interpretation read NEGATIVE <10 mIU/mL. On the qualitative test, the results simply read <2. My question is, based upon what these results are telling me, does it seem like she is or isn't pregnant? Is it possible for females to have small quantities of HGC (like <2mIU/mL) in their system even when not pregnant? I have read past threads that say amounts of HGC in the system can vary with different cases during the first few days of a pregnancy, but given all that is said above, does it seem likely that she is pregnant? Any help would be great. I've looked all over the web with little success.
