Re: Mild bleeding in the 14th week ... What could be happening ?!!From: amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 31 Mar 2003 15:18:00 -0600 (CST)
I had a brown discharge on the 9th week of pregnancy and also some pink on the 12th week of pregnancy. My OB preferred to play it safe and do an ultrsound each time. All was fine, as I delivered my beautiful baby 8 weeks ago at full term. From my reading a brown discharge is old blood related to a past period, intercourse which irritated the cervix or a recent internal exam. For me, none of those things had been real recent at the time of the bleeding so I was worried. It turned out that I had a small hemorrhage on the placenta that apparently healed itself. It is very common to bleed in the first trimester. Usually you will not be put on bedrest unless you are having lots of bright red bleeding (enough to saturate one large pad in an hour) and are experiencing any kind of cramping. To be safe, just take it easy for the rest of the day. Put your feet up, drink lots of water and take a nap. Usually a brown discharge is nothing to worry about.
