What if I don't know I'm in labor? DR. PLEASE!

My mom said that with her first child (my brother), her water broke. She went to the hospital (still, without one contraction), and had him 4 hours later.

With me, she said she had a slight stomach ache. Called the Dr. and she went in to be "checked." She was dilated to 10 cm.

My Dr's office says not to even call until you've been having contractions for at least 2 hours 5 minutes apart or less. I'm afraid if I'm anything like my mom and her sister...I won't make it to the hospital!!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. THank you!!!
