Re: cerclageFrom: Melissa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 31 Mar 2003 10:43:44 -0600 (CST)
I am not a doctor, but have tons of experience with doc's thinking I had an incompetent cervix causing the delivery of my first baby. With the second baby, my OB wanted to do a cerclage to avoid early delivery. Well, my history was such that it was premature labor with the first baby, not an IC cervix. I denied the procedure after seeing a perinatologist (I hope that is the kind of specialist you saw, if it was I am surprised they checked manually for cervix length). They should have done a vaginal ultrasound for an accurate look at the cervix. Now, for your follow up ultrasound, did they look at the cervix with vaginal ultrasound, or did they they look at it through the tummy while looking at the baby? If they measured it that way, it isn't too reliable. If I were you I would demand to see a perinatologist (maternal fetal specialist) and have a vaginal ultrasound to determine what is really going on with the cervix, if anything. Good luck,
-- Melissa
