Panicking: Will Rhinocort cause birth defects?From: Sarah (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 27 Mar 2003 18:16:42 -0600 (CST)
I am almost 6 weeks pregnant and I just read in a pregnancy book that some steroid nasal sprays are not safe during pregnancy, so I did some research and found out that Rhinocort Aqua is a category C drug. I've been on the maximum dose (2 sprays each nostril, twice per day) since before I became pregnant. I don't plan to continue the medication (hoping my sinuses will cooperate) but I'm worried about what damage might have been done already. The data says there have been spinal defects in rats - will they be able to detect something like this on ultrasound? Please tell me how worried I should be, and if I need to get any special tests or take extra precautions from now on. Thanks.
