These days they can see how many you are carrying FAR earlier than 20 or so years ago. This has led to the phenom of the 'disappearing twin' -- we now know that many pregnancies are multiple at the beginning, but that only one fetus survives. Nothing you can do about -- it is just one of nature's 'things.'
