Yes, very. And even at the 8 week appointment, they really can't do very much. They will take your history for future reference, talk to you about diet and lifestyle and order blood/urine work. At 12 weeks, they will be able to hear a heart beat and check fundus height, etc, but at this point there really isn't anything pregnancy related for them to do. Just take your folic acid, eat well and cut out any unhealthy habits.
