1st Trimester of Pregnancy & Hypothyroidism

Hello - I am 28 have taken Synthroid for hypothyroidism for about 7 years, and I am now 9.5 weeks pregnant w/ my first child. Since my pre-pregnancy thyroid levels looked good to my primary physician, he did not order a TSH test, etc. at the time he confirmed my pregnancy. My thyroid levels were just tested 2 weeks ago at my first prenatal appt. w/ my OB-GYN, and I heard back late last week that my numbers were "all off" and that my thyroid is very underactive. I just started a new, higher dosage of Synthroid today.

My fear is that - with so much time having passed - irrevocable harm has been done to my baby due to the hypothyroidism. I keep reading all these scary things about low IQ, developmental delays, etc.

Since I am now on a higher (hopefully appropriate) dosage of Synthroid, is it possible that my baby will still benefit and the risks of damage can be minimized? Or is there a chance that damage has occurred that can't be reversed?

Thank you so much for your help.
