It sounds like the article was referring to an animal model to test the possible abnormalities that a drug, Robitussin DM, could cause. In this model they concluded that abnormalities did occur when the chickens ingested the drug during the development of their embryos. Often the drug doses they give during these animal trials are much higher than someone would normally take. Two things are different about your case (at least two things), you are not a chicken :-) and you took it prior to implantation and therefore before organ development had really gotten underway. One of the periods of highest sensitivity for an embryo is between 3 and 9 weeks AFTER ovulation, before that is considered the 'all or nothing' stage. So, no I don't think you taking Robitussin DM caused your son's hydrocephalus. However, I'm not a doctor.
