Robitussin DM (Dextromethorphan) Dangerous if used to GET pg?

I'm sitting here just freaked out! I took Robitussin DM back when I got pg with ds (almost 4). I received improper info from somewhere on the net that the "DM" was the kind I was supposed to use (now know this isn't right).

I'm just so freaked because my son was born with hydrocephalus. My question is, I read that a PREGNANT woman taking dextromethorphan may (according to the chicken embryo study) be placing her baby in greater risk of birth defect, but when you use the stuff to GET pg, you use it before implantation even occurs (around ovulation). Can THAT really cause birth defects? How? Does it somehow pass through the cervical mucous and into the sperm's DNA or the egg?

TIA,

Jody
