Hello, I am 34 weeks pregnant and am on Effexor for depression. I have been on Effexor for 5 years. This is my second pregnancy, and I was on Effexor with my first child, who was born healthy and normal with no withdrawal symptoms. However, since then, my Dr has incresed my Effexor to 375 mg from 250. He recommended that we have a pediatrician involved after the baby is born just in case the baby has potential withdrawal symptoms after birth. as a precaution, he also tapered me down on the Effexor from 375 to 300 mg to reduce the possibilities of discontinuation symptoms in teh baby. Does Effexor typically cause withdrawal symtoms in the baby after birth? I was told that unlike some SSRI's, Effexor probably won't cause withdrawal symptoms in the baby. Is this correct? If so, what are some of the potential withdrawal symptoms that the baby could have? Thanks
