Re: How to increase breast milk supplyFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 2 Mar 2003 02:52:41 -0600 (CST)
Donna, Just my opinion... I have used several different pumps including electric. I think that the Avent Isis is the most wonderful and comfortable one available. It is around $45 but it is worth every cent. It is manual- but easily helped me to express milk- much easier than the expensive $200 Medela pump that I had also bought.(which, BTW ended up doing little more than collecting dust in a cabinet) The Medela not only cost more but it was painful (for me) and I was not able to express as much milk. I do know that you should drink lots of fluids. You can also ask your doctor for a rx of Domperidone which will help to increase your milk supply. Pump often- even if you feel that it is not productive. The stimulation, in itself, will "tell" your body to produce more milk as your milk ducts will eventually respond to the "supposed demand" for more. I alwaays thought that breast feeding would be simple. Just pop it in the mouth and Whala! No, that was not the case for me. I became very frustrated and soon learned that it required lots of practice. Also- when pumping- try to relax and be very patient- try listening to soothing music or have your baby near you. I promise- in time- the milk will flow (and in my case it eventually poured). Take Care... Hope this helps... Amy P.S. The Isis has sillicone breast "petals" which gently massage and push on the entire breast and help to stimulate a let down...:):):)
