Please Respond-question about preterm laborFrom: leah (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 28 Feb 2003 12:32:54 -0600 (CST)
I am 26 yr old and 28 weeks pregnant, pregnancy #4, two miscarriages ( 1st trimester), first pregnancy treated for preterm labor due to contrations (severe uterine irratibility) and cervical funneling w/ no decrease in length (detected at 24 weeks) , delivered by induction at 40 weeks and involved 4th degree tear through rectum (8lbs 15 1/2 oz, big head, 16). This pregnancy has been eventful, 1st trimester bleeding ,several bladder infection and a bout of kidney stones which resulted in an ultrasound that revealed an 1.7 cm cervix with pronouced funneling and on digital exam felt soft and thinning ( all I was told, no %). The cervical length had decreased greatly from 20 week ultrasound. I had a neg fFN. I have uterine irritibility this time as well which is getting worse each week even though I have been put on bedrest. My doc prescibed no meds due to neg ffn and plans to watch cervix with weekly digital exam and possibly more ffn test. With the increasing uterine irratibility/contractions do you feel meds or home monitoring may help or current plan from doc is sufficient? In researching the topic of cervical length there is very contradicting info out there and I wanted to hear some other docs opinions. Thank you for your time in responding. Leah
