strep throat at 9 weeks

Is it okay to take Penicillin for strep throat at only 9 weeks of pregnancy? I know that it is better to take no medication in the first trimester, but my primary care doctor says that I need to take it because the possible risks of strep are worse. My OB is on vacation, so I cannot ask him. How likely is the medication to cause a problem with the pregnancy? I am also taking Tylenol to control the fever. Thank you.
