Gestational diabetes/Sugar concern - DOCS pleaseFrom: Caroline (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 28 Feb 2003 15:59:34 -0600 (CST)
My one-hour test for Gestational Diabetes came back at 137 - borderline but just under the cutoff for having to re-test. My doctor told me I have to cut sugar from my diet (I have a sweet tooth that's out of control). A couple of weeks ago I wrote into this forum asking whether high sugar intake could cause G.D. and Dr. Essien said no (at least that was my understanding). But if that's the case, then why would my doctor tell me to cut down on sugar? Question #1, DID MY SUGAR INTAKE CAUSE ME TO HAVE SUCH A HIGH NUMBER? And Question #2, IF I AM DISCIPLINED AND DO CUT OUT SUGAR, WILL I DEFINITELY AVOID GESTATIONAL DIABETES? I'm guilt-ridden! I hope I didn't hurt my baby with my selfish cravings. What a wake-up call. Thank you.
