Endometrial Polyp RemovalFrom: Jan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 28 Feb 2003 15:31:45 -0600 (CST)
My wife has had 5 miscarriages and is now diagnosed with an endometrial polyp; we are told it should be removed. Unfortunately, our insurance refuses to pay because they consider it “fertility treatment”. The hospital says is costs almost $10,000 for self-pay patients, about $3000 for professional fees (obg and anesthesia) and over $5000 for facilities; they claim the full Operating Room must be used for this procedure. The doctor thinks the use of the hysteroscope is also very costly. My question is whether this is reasonable for a 20 minute procedure, whether this procedure can be done in a smaller facility, whether the full Operating Room is necessary. We are wondering if we can and should shop around to have this procedure done.
