Re: 2nd trimester recurrent miscarriagesFrom: Katya (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 17 Feb 2003 12:46:47 -0600 (CST)
Dear Jennifer, I am so sorry for your losses. Am I right in assuming that the babies were also tested? (i.e. that the losses were not triggered by abnormal chromasomal patterns in the babies?) If the answer is "no", then here is your situation as seen from the outside. Your body used to have the ability to bring healthy children into the world. Then something changed and that ability went away. I would not pay too much attention to the slight change in your cycle because it's so recent. Given how late the miscarriages are, the heavy bleeding also seems normal. I would really focus your memory on the interval between the birth of the last live baby and the 1st miscarriage. Perhaps the reason the doctors are not finding anything is because they are focusing exclusively on your reproductive health while it's your overall health that is affecting the outcomes. Did you suddenly lose/gained weight after the birth of the 3rd baby? Is it possible that you gained weight and developed diabetes? Is it possible that you developed a thyroid condition (something that would be normally checked for in all the testing you underwent, but perhaps not). Was an infection found in the amniotic sack with miscarried babies? (i.e. perhaps you acquired an STD/persitent yeast infection that turns into chorioamnionitis consistently). Since your situation is so tragic and uncommon, try to find an RE who is also a professor in a medical school, and switch to a university hospital for your care. They are more likely to diagnoze a rare condition. Best wishes to you and lots of hugs,
-- Katya (not a doctor, just a biochemist)
