I don't know why your doc would tell you to take castor oil. Labour could start anytime regardless if your cervix is dilated or effaced or not. The opposite is also true! I was dilated 1 cm for 2 weeks before I gave birth (which was right on my due date btw!) It's impossible to predict when effacement, dilation and labour will begin. My friend took castor oil and it started her labour right away, but she said it was really nasty and made her really sick. Why does your doctor think that you will have a difficult labour? This is a very tricky thing to predict, even for docs. Unless she knows that there are some difficulties with your pregnancy (very large baby and small pelvis, etc.) I think it's pretty sad that she's psyching you out like this. Try not to go in with a negative attitude because it'll probably make things harder on you. Labour is hard work, but if you try to stay positive and feel confident it usually makes it a bit easier. Your baby will drop and you will start labour when your body and baby are ready. True, sometimes Mother Nature requires a little bit of help (I was induced for my 2nd child) but you still have two weeks left to go and lots of changes can be made during that time. I would ask your doctor why she's in such a hurry. Good luck!
