Re: Darvocet during pregnancyFrom: Erin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 8 Feb 2003 15:19:53 -0600 (CST)
Dear Susan, I too was prescribed Darvocet for Migraines and my O/B said that in studies, women who took the drug regularly for pain management durring pregnancy gave birth to babies with no more birth defects than women who did not take the drug. He did say though to be careful durring the 3rd trimester in how often. I believe it was due to possible addiction of the baby. My other option for the migraines was to call my Dr. every time I had one (every day!) and have him tell me to go to the ER to get a shot of Demerol and Phenergren (which made me ralph like crazy) or Morphine (which is supposedly non-toxic to the fetus per my Dr.) The morphine worked great but hey...doesn't that sound a little intence? Plus I would be hung over from it for 2 days and sleep the entire time only to once again wake up w/ another head ache. Good news is...although it sounds too good to be true, the head aches will stop all of a sudden one day soon (atleast I hope so...that's what happened to me anyway) and then you won't need the Darvocet any more :) Hope this helped!
