Re: AFP triple screen with two markers out of range?

I had the AFP triple screen at 15 weeks and it came back positive. I was concerned but my doctor explained that it was only a screening, not a definite result. There are a number of factors that can cause markers to be out of range (such as your dates being wrong, carrying more than one baby, lab error, etc). I was retested at 17 weeks and everything looked ok. Because of previous concerns I was already scheduled for a level 2 u/s at 19 weeks. U/S looked great so we elected not to have any further testing done. I have read stories about mothers having positive AFP screens numerous times and then giving birth to healthy babies and I have also read about mothers who test negative and give birth to babies with disorders. I wouldn't stress over it and just take it one step at a time. Good luck with everything!
