Re: uterine rupture? (Dr Braun? Anyone?)From: Alicia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 5 Feb 2003 21:45:42 -0600 (CST)
I have a relative who experienced a placental abruption and the only symptom she had was severe cramping. The doctors kept telling her that the baby's heartrate was ok so there was nothing to worry about. A few days later, she started bleeding heavily and the baby's heartrate dropped. They didn't know until the emergency c-section that she was hemmoraging from the abruption. She was in the hospital for a few days and needed a blood transfusion. If it weren't for the emergency surgery because of fetal distress, she may not have lived. That is quite a nightmare but I also know a woman whose abruption was diagnosed my ultrasound and it was cared for immediately and her and the baby were fine. Uterine rupture is quite different. It is when the uterus itself tears. There are a few things that can cause this, one that I am sure of is VBAC. I watched a program on tv the other evening where a woman tried a VBAC but the incision site wasn't where it was believed to be and she ended up having an emergency hysterectomy after the delivery. As for bicornuate uterus, I have a girlfriend who is pregnant now that has one. Her doctor said that a major complication of this is premature labor because the baby can only grow in half of the uterus. I believe that this is all the info I can give you, and I know it isn't much. Hang in there, one of the doctors will give you more info. Have you checked the archives? You might be able to find something there.
