When I went to my first OB appt with my first child, they questioned me over and over again about my last cycle and when I said I got pg. Said my uterus was too large for as far along as I was. So they sent me for an ultrasound and I was as far along as I thought I was. My uterus was just large. I looked big most of my pregnancy and ended up having a 7 lb boy. So could be just the uterus is large. And you're right, the ultrasound should tell you lots!
