I am 50 pounds overweight and have been TTC for 18 months. Thank you. The weight loss phase of the Atkins diet is not recommended in pregnancy. See Dr. Atkins' website for more information. However, the maintainance phase of the diet (with 70-100 grams of carbs) could be used in pregnancy under the care and advise of your OB. Contrary to some of the comments about the dangers of the Dr. Atkins approach, it is finally being studied by scientists who are amazed at the preliminary results of their study. The patients' cholesterol did go down just as Dr. Atkins has said for years, and weight loss results are better long term than with other popular diets. The rest of the medical community is giving the diet some credibility, and further research on the diet is on-going.
