HCG levels- how do you know if it is a missed miscarriage? From: Jari (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 31 Jan 2003 13:30:34 -0600 (CST)
I recently posted a message under the subject MISSED MISCARRIAGE. Well, the doctor has not yet diagnosed my pregnancy as a missed miscarriage even though the date of my last period(October 22) and the size of the fetus (6weeks5days at ultrasound on Jan. 29) does not match up. So we did blood work. The bloodwork done on December 18 when I found out I was pregnant showed my HCG levels at 2000 and so he did bloodwork on January 30 and those levels were over 20,000. So he didn't know if this was a missed miscarriage. So we did more bloodwork today. I am just looking for opinions of others out there to know if these HCG levels are good and how much of a increase should I expect for the pregnancy to be hopeful. Since the fetus would have been 15weeks , if you go by my last period, BUT only measures 7wks wouldn't you think the HCG level have decreased by now??? Since it only measures 6weeks 5 days, the fetus would have been dead even before the bloodworks was done on Dec18 so there would show a decrease instead of increases!?! However, my periods are irregular so I don't know how reliable it would be to calculate by my last period Oct.20. Please respond....some opinions would be reallly helpful. I am hoping everything is ok but I am prepared to cope with the worst since I have been waiting so long.
