It certainly can be too soon to see a heartbeat at this point. I had a u/s at about 5 weeks and there was no h/b, and had another a week later and there it was. The little monkey is now 10 months old. PLEASE don't give up hope - there's absolutely no reason to be upset now. I know the waiting is unbearable, but it sounds perfectly normal for this early on in a pregnancy. You might ask for a seriel hcg count to assure yourself that your levels are rising.
