This is good advice. The Atkins diet is indeed controversial but I think everyone agrees that overall, a STRICT all-protein, no-carb diet is bad bad for you. And surely in pregnancy is not advisable. However, consider this: Learn all you can about it, learn all about which foods are high-carb and which are not, and you can have your own rather modified version of this diet (because it does indeed help keep the pounds off). So if you're at the restaurant and you can choose: pizza, or salmon: well look, pizza is high-carb, salmon is high-protein. pick salmon. allow yourself some complex carbs (brown rice, etc) but don't eat tons of bread and pastry and white pasta. So decrease your carb intake but don't cut out carbs. It's another way of looking at it that is more balanced and healthy (it is what I try to do- I was about 10 lbs overweight when I got pregnant).
