Proscar and risks of birth defects

My husband was prescribed Proscar for his BPH. I have read that pregnant women should not handle the pills.

We are trying to conceive, and I have gotten conflicting information off the web about the risks. Are there any increased risks of miscarriage and/or birth defects as a result of my husband taking this drug? (We've already suffered 2 miscarriages due to Factor V Leiden.)

I've read that traces of Proscar will be in his semen, and that this may cause genital abnormalities in a male fetus. Is this true of false?
