At age of 38 and pregnant with an IVF baby, my doctors wanted me to have an amnio also. I compromised with them. We did the triple screen and a thorough ultrasound both of which looked good so no amnio for me. I told them that if either of them were bad, I would consider an amnio - and then only so a specialist could be in the delivery room if needed. I was blessed with a beautiful baby boy. Possibly you could do the blood tests and u/s and help those results help you decide what to do. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and this little surprise!
