Bronchitis and Fever Symptoms Start on Day of OvulationFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 17 Jan 2003 09:36:02 -0600 (CST)
My wife and I are trying to conceive this month. On the day of ovulation (as best we can tell determined by an ovulation predictor kit - could have been the day after) she woke up early feeling horrible. She was running a fever of about 99.5. We took her to the doctor that day and he said she had acute bronchitis. He wrote her a prescription for penicillin, but she didn't get it filled because she didn't feel comfortable with taking it. She DID take 5 to 6 Extra Strength Tylenol during the next 18 or so hours to try to bring her fever down. The fever would range between 99.5 and 100.5, but only to 100.5 a few times and for only about an hour or so. Her fever finally broke about 36 hours later (about mid-day on the 16th day of her cycle). Ultimately my question is this: If she is pregnant, could her having bronchitis, a fever for 36-48 hours, or taking Extra Strength Tylenol during the first days of conception cause any harm to the baby? The concern is that neural tube defects can increase when the woman's core temperature rises, but how much? We're really concerned because this is the first few days of conception and not sure what the issues might be. Thanks
