Re: UltrasoundsFrom: Alicia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 9 Jan 2003 17:36:02 -0600 (CST)
A level 2 is an indepth look at the fetus. During the exam, the baby's limbs, head, heart, etc are measured and looked over for possible defects. Most obgyns order a level 2 for their patients at around 18 to 22 weeks to access fetal growth. This does not diagnose problems, just shows a possibility and is often used to verify your due date. There are level 3 and level 4 ultrasounds and are usually reserved for women who have abnormal amino or cvs results and questionable level 2 ultrasounds. Level 3 and 4 are normally the new 3-D or 4-D ultrasounds. Just remember that an ultrasound isn't 100% accurate, problems may or may not show up and fetal growth and due date estimating may be off by +/- a week or so.
