Re: Lupus & planned C-section???From: Alicia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 9 Jan 2003 11:10:43 -0600 (CST)
Katrin, I have a cousin who suffered from lupus. When she was pregnant, her conditions were under control too. She delivered a healthy baby girl at 38 weeks via c-section. Her doctor told her too, that breastfeeding wasn't an option. An hour or two after the surgery, she did start breastfeeding. The baby left the hospital three days after the surgery and was breastfed for those few days successfully. Unfortunately, my cousin passed away that third day, the cause unrelated to her illness. I believe that with such a healthy start on breastfeeding, that she could have successfully breastfed. If I were you, I would breastfeed, no matter what kind of birth you have. Enjoy the moments while you can, and if you have a flare, don't get depressed about it, just be glad you had the chance to try it. Best of luck!
