2nd Degree TearsFrom: Sonya (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 8 Jan 2003 20:59:50 -0600 (CST)
I recently delivered a 6lb 10oz baby with the help of pitocin. I refused an episiotomy and ended up with a 2nd degree perineal tear and 2 small sidewall tears. Would I have had less damage if I had the episiotomy, or would I still have torn even with it? It has been 7 weeks and the repair is still very lumpy and sore. Did the pitocin help to cause the tearing since it made the contractions very strong and my baby was out in only 3 pushes? I would like to know if anything could have been done to avoid or minimize the damage? I would like to have another baby but, I am afraid the same will happen to me again. Thank for any replies.
